*11/10/21 PAUL CONTACTED FAINE DIRECTLY BY PHONE, WHEN HE RECEIVED THE EMAIL THAT THEY COULD ONLY VIEW ONE CHAPTER. HE WAS FIRM, STATING THIS WAS NOT THE AGREEMENT & THAT HE HAD TO SEE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE APOLLO FAMILY.  

*FAINE’S REACTION TO THE CALL, ACCORDING TO PAUL, WAS DISMISSIVE, BLAMING THE PUBLISHER’S “PROTECTIVE NATURE”. THE WRITER CLAIMED NOW, THAT THE BOOK WAS MORE OF A BIOGRAPHY ABOUT HIMSELF, CONCERNING OTHERS & THAT THERE WAS LITTLE ELSE TO SEE REGARDING THE APOLLO FAMILY.

*AS FAR AS A CHAPTER REGARDING THELMA, FAINE CLAIMED IT CONTAINED HIS RESEARCH & ACCOUNTS OF TERRITORIANS. ACCORDING TO PAUL, THE AUTHOR SAID HE WOULD INCLUDED THE SON’S  INTERVIEW INFORMATION. HOWEVER ON READING THE BOOK THIS WAS EXCLUDED.

*PAUL SENT FAINE 6 PAGES OF EDITS FOR CH9. THE CHAPTER WAS FULL OF MISQUOTES & FACTUAL INACCURACIES. IN ANOTHER CALL TO FAINE, PAUL WAS INSISTENT THAT HE NEEDED TO SEE ALL FAMILY MATTERS IN THE BOOK, WORRIED BY THE EDITING MESS WITH THE ONE CHAPTER VIEWED. BRUCE’S EMAIL BELOW SUMS UP THE DRAFTING CONCERNS.

*IT WAS BECAUSE OF PAUL’S PRESSURE, THAT FAINE, 10/11/21, SENT HIM THE CHAPTER REGARDING APOLLO. ON READING IT, PAUL COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT HE WAS SEEING. THE CHAPTER WAS AN UNFOUNDED CHARACTER ASSASSINATION PIECE, FULL OF ERRORS.

*PAUL SENT THE CHAPTER TO MARK & HE WAS HORRIFIED BY ITS DISRESPECTFUL CONTENT. MARK DID NOT WANT TO HAVE ANY MORE TO DO WITH THE BOOK & HIS EMAIL BELOW REFLECTS THIS. PAUL DID NOT SEND THE DRAFT TO BRUCE, FOR FEAR OF UPSETTING HIM FURTHER, AS EVIDENT IN HIS EMAIL BELOW.

*If you use my words and quote me Jon, I would expect that you will use my quotes in the right context as they were given to you and directly apply to a situation or circumstance.

*Kindly DO NOT just use the snippets that suit you and twist the dialogue to your liking for the sake of a convenient story! You have come to us to get the facts and information pertaining to our story. Misquoting, complete fabrication and only using snippets of statements is a dirty journalism trick that I don’t appreciate! I consider my time and input valuable. The trauma and stress that we three brothers have to relive for the sake of this story deserves and demands that it be told properly! That was your promise right at the outset of this exercise. Keep your promise!

*You will no doubt notice as the chapter continues, that my comments lose much of their diplomacy. I am very upset!! That is because every time I have to revisit this, I have to relive the trauma, stress and unhappy memories of a terrible childhood. Apart from that, I feel as I have to defend my Father’s honour and reputation as some of your comments have been without a doubt disrespectful, offensive and out of line.

*Again, you came to us for information. We didn’t come to you! You wanted our information with the promise of writing a biography on my Father and our Aunty Thelma as accurately as you possibly could. If we thought for one second you were going to write a fictitious account, we would have collectively told you to “Piss Off”! Again, we didn’t sell our souls for money or a book!

*Jon, to date, you have been passive aggressive, sometimes offhand and abrupt and don’t appear to be proceeding in the manner you promised us? We were also told we would get to see the book in its entirety before publication which seems to have been withdrawn, vanished from the table??

*I once said to you that many people have tried in the past to coast a wave, cashing on my Dad’s remarkable life and achievements in the past. This is nothing new. 

*The difference here is that only YOU have been given the on time opportunity to do so using our Father’s Press books, personal diaries, VERY personal, traumatic and private memories from his three surviving sons. You have a backstage pass. Please don’t spit in our faces by arrogantly abusing that opportunity as it will not be provided again!

*You would prefer our continuing support, blessing and endorsement as Apollo’s 3 surviving sons who know him better than anyone else ever could or will. You have been given the tools for the job! Please proceed without condescending remarks, fiction and misquotes. If you do your best respectfully there will be no further issues! There is absolutely no reason for any other path! Unnecessary!

*THE CHAPTER REGARDING APOLLO, THAT PAUL PUSHED FAINE INTO SENDING, WAS A HATCHET PIECE. FAINE TOOK EVERY OPPORTUNITY, WITHOUT A VAID, KNOWLEDGEABLE FRAME OF REFERENCE, TO UNFAIRLY & INCORRECTLY ATTACK APOLLO.

*PAUL COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT HE WAS READING, OR AT THE TIME, THE REASONING BEHIND FAINE’S “JECKEL & HYDE TRANSFORMATION”. AS WILL BE ADDRESSED IN LATER SECTIONS, THIS CHAPTER WAS LITTERED WITH UNFOUNDED OPINIONS, OMITTED FACTS & WRONG INFORMATION. THE SONS HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED ANOTHER SOURCE, DESCRIBE THEIR FATHER IN THIS MANNER.

*PAUL SENT THE CHAPTER TO HIS BROTHER MARK. HE WAS SHOCKED & ANGRY & EXPRESSED THAT HE HAD ENOUGH WITH FAINE & THE BOOK. PAUL DARED NOT SEND THE DRAFT TO BRUCE, FOR FEAR OF HIS VOLATILE REACTION. BRUCE AS SEEN SHOWN, HAD NO TIME FOR FAINE & DID NOT TRUST HIM.

*PAUL ASSURED MARK, THAT HE WOULD CORRECT THE DRAFT CHAPTER WITH FAINE. FEELING HE WAS NOW IN DAMAGE CONTROL, PAUL KNEW THE BOOK WOULD NOW COME OUT REGARDLESS OF ANY MORE OF THEIR INPUT. FAINE HAD GOTTEN THE SELECTIVE INTERVIEW INFORMATION HE NEEDED FROM THE FAMILY & HAD TAKEN PLENTY OF PHOTOS OUT OF THE PRESS BOOKS. 

*PAUL THEN RANG FAINE, KEEPING HIS COMPOSURE. HE EXPRESSED WITHOUT GOING INTO IN DEPTH, THAT THERE WERE HUGE ISSUES WITH THE CHAPTER & WOULD SEND HIS FEEDBACK IN NOTE EDITS. FAINE UNDER PUBLISHING TIME PRESSURE, SUGGESTED TO MEET AT PAUL’S WAREHOUSE, TO GO OVER ISSUES.

*A FEW DAYS LATER FAINE MEET PAUL AT HIS RESIDENCE. THE MEETING TOOK 2 HOURS. PAUL SAID THAT HE STRUGGLED TO KEEP HIS COOL. HE TOLD FAINE ABRUPTLY, THIS IS NOT THE BOOK HE HAD PROMISED (REFER TO PREVIOUS SECTIONS) TO WRITE WITH THEIR INVOLVEMENT. FURTHER, THAT IF HE WROTE IN THIS WAY, THE SONS WOULD CONDEM THE BOOK & HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. PAUL THEN WENT ON TO STATE, THAT IF THE BROTHERS HAD ANY INKLING, THAT HE HAD THESES UNFOUNDED OPINIONS REGARDING THEIR FATHER, THEY WOULD HAVE TOLD HIM TO “GO TO HELL WITH HIS BOOK.”

*PAUL THEN EXPRESSED TO FAINE, IT LOOKED LIKE HE WAS CONCOCTING A STORY, WHICH WAS UNACCEPTABLY, LOSELY BASED ON APOLLO. FAINE’S EXCUSE WAS THESE WERE JUST OPINIONS & HE WAS TRYING TO PRESENT MIGHTY APOLLO AS A MULTI FACETED FIGURE, FOR THE READER TO INTERPRET. FURTHER, AS WILL BE REVEALED, HE CLAIMED FALSELY, SOME OF HIS OPINIONS WERE BASED ON BRUCE’S INTERVIEW INFORMATION, REGARDING APOLLO AS A FATHER.

*PAUL THEN WENT OVER THE ENTIRE CHAPTER WITH FAINE, METHODICALLY CORRECTING CONTENT & PROVIDING ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. PAUL ALSO ADDRESSED WORDING HE FOUND OFFENSIVE. DURING THE PROCESS, PAUL SAID, HE FOUND FAINE CLOSED OFF & ARROGANT. PAUL SAID IT TOOK ALL HIS CONTROL NOT TO SEND FAINE & HIS COMPUTER AIR BORN OUT THE DOOR.

*FAINE (AS DISCUSSED IN PREVIOUS CHAPTERS), VOWED HE WOULD NOT WRITE ANYTHING THAT THE SONS FELT WAS INCORRECT, OR OFFENSIVE. IT WAS TO BE A JOINT PROJECT. FAINE TYPED AS PAUL SPOKE & GAVE HIS CORRECTIVE COMMENTS. AT THE END FAINE SAID HE WOULD ALTER THE CHAPTER IN ACCORDANCE. 

*PAUL, OR THE OTHER SONS, DID NOT SEE A FINAL DRAFT OF THIS CHAPTER BEFORE PRINT. THE FAMILY TOOK FAINE AT HIS WORD TO ALTER THE CHAPTER. ON READING THE BOOK FAINE BARELY CHANGED ANYTHING. THE WRITER HAD THE FICTIONAL NARRATIVE THAT BOTH HE  & THE PUBLISHERS DESIRED. IN THE MANNER OF A NARCISSIST, THERE WAS NO CONCERN FOR THE FAMILY, OR APOLLO’S TRUTHFUL LEGACY.*

*6/12/2021 - FAINE VISITS PAUL’S WAREHOUSE WITH A PHOTOGRAPHER. THIS WAS TO TAKE FEATURED COLOUR PHOTOS FOR THE BOOK. AT THIS POINT, PAUL FELT LIKE HAVING NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BOOK. HE DID NOT TRUST FAINE TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THE EDITS PROVIDED. 

*PAUL WAS SHORT WITH FAINE DURING THE VISIT, KEEPING HIS DISTANCE. PAUL RECOUNTS, THAT FAINE WHEN LOOKING THROUGH THE PRESS BOOKS, MADE A COMMENT, THAT HE COULD NOT FIND A NON ARTISTIC EXAMPLE IN MIGHTY APOLLO’S LATER ENTRIES. THIS WAS TO SUPPORT A STATEMENT FAINE SAID HE HAD MADE IN HIS BOOK. PAUL’S RESPONSE WAS, “THATS BECAUSE WHAT YOU ARE WRITING ISN’T RIGHT”, TO WHICH FAINE GAVE NO REPLY.

*PAUL NOW BELIEVED THERE WAS A BIG CHANCE THE BOOK WOULD  BE FULL OF BULLSHIT. IT WAS THEN HE TOLD FAINE ABRUPTLY, TO FINISH UP AS QUICKLY AS HE COULD, AS HE HAD THINGS TO DO.*

*THROUGHOUT THE BOOK PROJECT, FAINE PUSHED FOR A MIGHTY APOLLO BOOK LAUNCH DISPLAY, AT THE MELBOURNE MUSEUM.

*SOME OF THESE EMAILS ARE FEATURED BELOW, THEY WILL DESCRIBE THE PROCESS. FAINE’S ARROGANCE IS EVIDENT, IN HIS RESPONSE TO BRUCE’S HANDLING CONCERNS. BRUCE HOWEVER, PUTS HIM IN HIS PLACE.

HANDLING CONCERNS WAS THE REASON GIVEN TO DECLINE THE DISPLAY. THE BROTHER’S DECISION TO READ THE BOOK FIRST WAS THE RIGHT ONE, THEIR MISTRUST WELL FOUNDED.

*EMAIL FAINE 9/2/21: the Melbourne Museum have said they want to hold a "pop-up" exhibition about Apollo to coincide with the book being released in or around October 2021

they are going ahead with a four to six month exhibition on Apollo to co-incide with the book release in October

they want the book launch to be at the opening of the Exhibition

it will feature many of the iconic objects that Paul has retained... bed of nails, death boards, head spinner, press books, clothing, championship belts and so on 

some photographic materials can be used and they can project film onto a wall screen, and use the stuff from the National Film and Sound Archive / Movietone News

The curator who has to tell the story through the objects makes a time to meet wit Paul and look through the "stuff"

then they design a display and ask you - and me - what we think of it, as consultation but not with a right to veto!

they borrow the objects which you give them a licence to display. they transport and insure them etc

*EMAIL FAINE 19/2/21: I am working out a time on either 1/3 or 3/3 to meet the Museum curator for the first time

and learn from him about their ideas approach and what they may have of their own that is related or relevant... they apparently have a lot of circus / sideshow in their collection and then they have access to the Performing Arts Museum collection as well and also the National Film and Sound Archive...

*Email Bruce 11/2/21 I will of course be most interested in what the Museum has in mind for exhibiting our Dad's "stuff" as you put it, his equipment, movie footage and memorabilia. That is wonderful news!

I will be of course speaking to Paul with regards to what is being loaned/ provided to the museum and exactly how it will be managed. I believe I told you I worked at the Museum and State Library of Victoria for several years back in the mid 80's.

Unfortunately, I have seen first hand the more careless side of how certain items have been roughly mishandled or lost by some of the museum staff members in the past. Of course I would expect things have greatly improved since then??

Insured or not, I would expect and have a strict understanding that ALL of Dad's items are treated with the respect they are due and that they are all returned safely once the exhibition has concluded in exactly the same condition they initially are received by them. I want this made absolutely clear to them!

Even though I am very excited at the prospect of a Mighty Apollo exhibition at the museum.

An "alligator's tears sorry" from a museum representative and a consolation cheque will not be a possibility that I even want to consider!!!

Otherwise, I'm quite happy for Dad's "stuff" not to see the light of day, regardless of what P.R. mileage it may generate for either your book or for my brother's business.

I know Mark would agree with me on this matter 100%. I expect Paul would also strongly agree

I never implied or referred the Victorian Museum and State Library were ever a "Mickey Mouse outfit"?? Your words, not mine???

I WORKED there for 4 years! I know exactly what they display, and the very great care they take with many rare and irreplaceable items.

HOWEVER, I have also seen how "lesser" items have occasionally been both handled and stored. As a former staff member, I was often personally involved in setting up many displays and exhibits! I was there on many occasions when such actions occurred and witnessed such instances FIRST HAND!

Your remark following my comments and my concerns about the care of my Dad's items gives me the impression that you believe that I'm either; 1. Full of shit. Or, 2. Exaggerating?? I have absolutely no reason to do either! So don't treat me like a bloody mug!

Let us understand each other very clearly Jon. Kindly do me the courtesy of respecting, not fobbing off my concerns. I have EVERY right to voice ANY concerns that I may have! This is MY families' heritage and MY father's memory! Many people have tried to ride a wave to financial profit off my Dad's many achievements in the past. My eyes are well and truly open to any and all newcomers!

Do not mistake my (to date) easy going nature for some gullible fool who believes everybody does their job properly and there are always happy endings! I have had many, many years of very harsh reality to develop a razor sharp edge of cynicism towards most people in general.

The space they have in mind for what is called ‘pop-up’ exhibits is modest- about the size of a large multiple car garage.. about 15 meters by 20 metres. I showed him the photos I had taken of the objects at Paul’s- Tomb board, the bed of nails & the wall posters, trophies, scrap books of course medallions & sashes etc.

Before I were to agree to travel down to Melbourne to support the book launch, I would have to satisfy the following steps:

I would of course first actually need to read the book in its entirety in order to give it my personal endorsement as one of my father; "The Mighty Apollo's" sons. I have only read a draft of one chapter thus far?? 

I certainly will NOT do so if I thought that it was an unfair, biased or defamatory account of my Father or that of my Aunty Thelma. You have mentioned in the past that we may not like some of the contents of the book??  However if the contents have been covered in a fair and non-biased nature, then one does not reasonably expect it all to be "rosy" content.

*FAINE’S BOOK DROP OFF TO PAUL, AT HIS WAREHOUSE, WAS A QUICK ONE. ON SEEING THE BOOK COVER, PAUL QUESTIONED THE SUB TITLE CHANGE, TO THE TALL TALE. FAINE CLAIMED IT WAS FOR THE TALES OF THE TERRITORIANS. 

PAUL THEN  CHALLENGED THIS, SAYING THAT IT BETTER NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEIR FAMILY STORY. TO THIS PAUL SAID FAINE GAVE NO REPLY.

*ON OPENING THE BOOK & QUICKLY FLICKING THROUGH IT, PAUL SAID HE WAS DISAPPOINTED IN THE BLACK & WHITE PHOTOS. THEY WERE DARK, CONVENIENTLY HARD TO SEE & WERE ABSORBED INTO THE PAPER, LIKE A CHEAP COMIC BOOK. FAINE’S PUT IT DOWN TO THE PAPER USED. 

*PAUL DID NOT  READ ANY OF THE BOOK CONTENTS WHILE FAINE WAS AT HIS WAREHOUSE. THE VISIT WAS TOO QUICK & PAUL DID NOT TRUST HIS REACTION TO FAINE IF HE READ CONTENT THAT WAS FAKE.

*FAINE ASKED PAUL FOR A PICTURE HOLDING THE BOOK, TO WHICH HE RELUCTANTLY DID. HOWEVER PAUL TOLD FAINE IT WAS NOT TO BE DISTRIBUTED & FAINE AGREED. PAUL’S PRIVATE REASONING FOR THIS, WAS THAT HE WANTED TO READ THE BOOK FIRST. HE DID NOT WANT TO PROMOTE A BOOK THAT WAS FICTITIOUS.

*PAUL QUESTIONED FAINE REGARDING THE VERBAL EDITS HE HAD PROVIDED, REGARDING THE APOLLO CHAPTER. STATING THAT HE HOPED HE HAD MADE THE ALTERATIONS. PAUL SAID FAINE’S REPLY WAS ELUSIVE, CLAIMING HE HAD MADE THEM & WOULD NOT TALK ABOUT CONTENT THEY WERE NOT HAPPY WITH. HOWEVER, ON LATER READING THE BOOK, THE CHANGES HAD NOT BEEN MADE. FURTHER AT PROMOTIONS (AS WILL BE SEEN)  FAINE DOUBLED DOWN ON THE FANTASY.

*PAUL THEN QUICKLY WENT ON TO TELL FAINE, THAT IF THE CHANGES HAD NOT BEEN MADE, THE FAMILY WOULD NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE BOOK. FURTHER, THAT IF THEIR FATHER WAS ALIVE & READ THE BULLSHIT HE HAD WRITTEN ABOUT HIM, DAD WOULD HAVE MADE HIM EAT HIS BOOK.

*FAINE THEN ARROGANTLY REPLIED, THAT APOLLO WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY,  AS HE HAD HELPED TO IMMORTALISE HIM. PAUL WAS ANNOYED WITH THIS EGOTISTICAL RESPONSE. HE REPLIED THAT HIS FATHER DID NOT NEED FAINE’S BOOK FOR THIS. HIS FEATS HAD ALREADY ACHIEVED THIS & THAT THE FAMILY COULD HAVE  EASILY FLOODED  THE INTERNET WITH INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE SONS HAD WORKED WITH HIM TO DO THIS, IN A STRUCTURED MANNER, THROUGH THE BOOK & HOPED HE HAD DELIVERED. WITH THIS FAINE QUICKLY SAID HE HAD TO GO.*

   *BOOK DELIVERY ISSUE TO PAUL’S BROTHERS*

*PAUL HAD NOT READ BOOK BETWEEN ITS DELIVERY WED 16/3/22 & EARLY SUNDAY 20/3/22. REASON IS, PAUL’S DAY OFF WAS SUNDAY & HE WANTED TO READ THE BOOK WITH A CLEAR HEAD. FURTHER PAUL DREADED READING THE CONTENTS, FULLY EXPECTING THE WORSE.

*TO DATE PAUL’S BROTHERS HAD NOT RECEIVED THE BOOK. IT WAS RIDICULOUS THAT FAINE WANTED THE SONS TO COMMIT TO ENDORSING THE BOOK AT A LAUNCH, BEFORE COLLECTIVELY READING IT, FOR THE FIRST TIME. EMAILS BELOW ILLUSTRATE THIS & PAUL PRESSURING FAINE TO SEND THE BOOK TO HIS BROTHERS.

*THE CHAPTERS WERE FULL OF OUT RIGHT STORY CREATION, HUGE FACTUAL ERRORS, INCORRECT CLAIMS, TIME LINE FAULTS, MISQUOTES, KEY CHARACTER OMISSIONS & UNFOUNDED CHARACTER ASSESSMENTS. 

*PAUL WAS FURIOUS & COULD NOT SPEAK TO FAINE UNTIL ONE DAY BEFORE BOOK LAUNCH 6/4/22. IN THIS CONVERSATION PAUL EXPRESSED HIS ANGER REGARDING THE BOOK’S FANTASY & FAINE’S BETRAYAL. MEMO OF THIS 1HR 17 MIN CONVERSATION TO BE INCLUDED IN LATER STAGE ON THIS SITE.

*THE AUTHOR & PUBLISHERS HAD CREATED THE BOOK THEY WANTED. A BOOK VERY LOSELY BASED ON APOLLO, FILLED IN WITH OUTRIGHT STORY CREATION. 

*THELMA’S CHARACTER WAS PRESENTED IN A PERIPHERAL MANNER, EXCLUDING THE FAMILY’S INPUT. CLAIMS REGARDING APOLLO’S SON PAUL, ALSO INCORRECT.

*TO ALL THIS, QUESTIONS ARISE. DID FAINE ALWAYS HAVE THE INTENTION TO WRITE A BOOK IN A FICTIONAL MANNER? OR DID FAINE & THE PUBLISHERS DECIDED TO GO DOWN A STORY CREATION PATH DURING DRAFTING,(SEE FAINE’S EMAIL REGARDING 2ND DRAFT)?

*FAINE KNEW THE SONS WOULD NOT TOLERATE A LOSELY BASED BOOK CONCERNING THEIR FAMILY. IS THIS WHY THEY WERE EVENTUALLY STOPPED FROM SEEING THE FULL DRAFT & THE BOOK DELIVERY LEFT TO THE LAST MINUTE?

*IS THIS ALSO WHY IT TOOK FAINE 16 MONTHS TO START REVEALING HIS DARK SIDE? HIDING HIS UNFOUNDED OPINIONS, REGARDING THEIR FATHER, FROM THE START? DID HE WAIT, UNTIL HE HAD GAINED ALL THE INFORMATION THAT HE NEEDED FROM  THE SONS?  THIS WOULD ASSURE, THAT THE BOOK WOULD GO AHEAD, REGARDLESS OF THEIR FUTURE SUPPORT.

*REGARDLESS TO THE ANSWER TO THESE QUESTIONS, FAINE’S WORD OF TRUST, TO WRITE A FACTUALLY CORRECT BOOK, THAT THE SONS WOULD BE PROUD OF, DID NOT EVENTUATE. THE DAMAGE TO THE SONS & FAMILY LEGACY WAS IGNORED.

*THE ULTIMATE INSULT,  IS THAT FAINE CLAIMS AT BOOK LAUNCHES, THAT PAUL WAS INVOLVED IN THE WHOLE DRAFTING PROCESS REGARDING HIS FAMILY. AS HAS BEEN PRESENTED & SHOWN THROUGH EMAILS, THIS IS TOTALLY UNTRUE. THE AUTHOR MADE THESE CLAIMS TO GIVE HIS BOOK SOURCE CREDIBILITY. THE FICTITIOUS CONTENT WITHIN  THE APOLLO & THELMA BOOK, WILL BE REVEALED IN FOLLOWING PAGES.
